CASA P

Exploring wear in depth on its own territory and confronting the bodies of knowlegde devoted to it brought us to the following findings:
- A construction material and the traces of wear it features are inseparable. A material exposed to use necessarily carries signs of wear and should therefore be thought of that way. Because wear cannot be separated from the material, it becomes part of the material`s very definition.
-Managing wear means working with tolerances: The tolerance of the material itself and the tolerance of its users. Muzzling all wear, in practice, means anticipating all possible situations: managing wear, paradoxically, means impeding use.
-The built environment is a huge reservoir of situations that tell us about various usages and their interactions with architecture. Attentive observation of existing structures stimulates the observer and nourishes the designer. In other words, wear offers a way of reading buildings.
